The same download lives on the home page. New to desktop pets entirely? The beginner's guide explains the category in two minutes.
Install in three steps
- Run the installer. First launch may show a Windows SmartScreen notice because the installer isn't code-signed yet — choose "More info → Run anyway".
- Open DeskSprite. The built-in pet moves in automatically — no account, no setup wizard.
- Say hi. Click it, drag it anywhere, or move your cursor close and watch it notice you.
Is it safe?
The app runs locally: pet assets, interaction rules and settings stay on your computer, and everyday use needs no account. The one exception is AI Custom, where uploaded photos are used only to generate your pet (details in the privacy policy). The SmartScreen notice on first install is the standard Windows reminder for unsigned apps — it's about the missing code signature, not a detection.
After the download
- Pet shop — adopt ready-made companions; several are free.
- AI pet maker — turn 1–3 photos of your own pet into a desktop pet.
- User manual — setup, daily interaction, shop and troubleshooting.
FAQ
Is the desktop pet download free?
Yes. DeskSprite is free to download and use: the built-in pet is free from first launch, and the free pets in the shop cost nothing too. Membership only unlocks the premium shop pets and AI customization.
Do I need an account to use it?
No — download, install, and the default pet moves in without any sign-up. Free shop pets install with one click too, no account needed; an account is only for the AI pet maker, membership perks, and gift pets.
Windows shows a SmartScreen warning — is that bad?
It's expected. The installer isn't code-signed yet, so Windows shows a standard "unknown publisher" notice on first run. Choose "More info → Run anyway" to continue; the app itself runs locally and doesn't require an account.
Is there a Mac version?
Yes — DeskSprite is built natively for macOS 12+ on Apple silicon and Intel. The Mac installers are marked "coming soon" in the download section as of September 2026; the Windows version is available today.
How do I get more pets after installing?
Two ways. Open the DeskSprite app, find a pet's card under the My Pet tab and click "Get" — it appears on your desktop immediately (free pets need no account). Or make your own with the AI pet maker from 1–3 photos.
Ready when you are
The download is the whole onboarding: install once and your pet moves in on first launch.
